Good Morning or Good Evening or Good whatever time you read this!!!
It really is going to be a good day. I'm happy for the April Showers... Because without them, we wouldn't get our May Flowers!
As a continuation from last week's Technology, Twitter, and Trouble" blogpost... I give you my next "T'"
TIME.
As Pink Floyd once said.... "Staying home and watch the rain... and you are young, and life is long, and there is time to kill today" They explain when you're young, you think, "we have plenty of time."
As I have become older and on the other side of the hill... I realize how freakin fast life goes buy. I seriously have little or no time to relax and catch my thoughts. I basically work 7-4 then I do some kind of coaching or driving to a sporting practice from 4-8, then from 8-11 is all my time to catch up on laundry, dishes, homework, dinner, dessert, discussion with my family, all while trying to plan out the next day and the next upcoming weekend. Not to mention, I've had some sort of dr appointment every single week. My van had to be taken to the dealer by Tow truck again for the 3rd time since February, and everything is just going soooo fast.
In the meantime, I have to tell you.... I am killing it when it comes to technology in MY classroom.
Let me just remind you, I joined Twitter.... lol Again, something I swore, I would never do!
The good news is... I am communicating with my students digitally, which like 6-8 weeks ago, I had no intention, or knowledge of how to do it.
I'm making my students complete their third Padlet, in 2 weeks, and I completed my fifth Google form in my whole life this week. and a month ago, I had no Idea what one actually was! I'm also using Kahoot every unit since I started.... that artifact. Now I'm addicted! I've already administered two quizzes and two questionnaires regarding standards and building trades in ALL my sections.... I just need to update my portfolio and I'm all good!
I'm taking advantage of all the students, always, having cell phones, and instead of taking the cell phones away, I'm making them use them (and their Chromebooks) towards stuff that'll keep their minds going on the materteral I want. I have a ton more ideas planned for next year and I'm really excited.... and if I'm really excited maybe the time will slow down!! Haha
Did I mention I joined twitter! and to be completely honest... I might have to delete my account after this class! lol One of the many things I dislike about LinkedIn, Twitter, Tick-tock, Snapchat, or Facebook is the fact that they you need your photo, your birth date, all personal information right off the bat, and then they still want to make sure you're human!
Then, once you get in, and they suspect you're no longer a human... You get absolutely bombarded with information and videos and posts and articles.... and I don't even know who anyone is! One of the things that I am blown away by is the amount of information that is out there. When I see a blog, I'm interested in, or a podcast, or a website, or information.... There is just so much information and so many things to click on and so many things to listen to and watch and everything in between. I just don't feel I have enough time to spend quality time with the people I love in my life AND be on social media! How do people do work, & jobs, and to-do lists, and manage everything going on in their life?
There's just so much more information that I can ever imagine. There are more interesting podcasts out there than I could ever listen to. There is more blogs and websites and tutorials and information just coming from every direction. It's just completely and totally overwhelming and I can't see myself having enough time in the day to; gather all that information; then being able to process the information; then being able to turn around and share the information for good, to either my students or my family; then integrate and interpret the information and explain to my students, my kids, or anyone who is willing or capable of listening because they too have all this information....
So overwhelming!
But do we have a choice.
I'm not just sitting on the beach waiting for the "Big Wave" of Artificial Intelligence and Technology to come crashing down on me like a sunami.... I am in the water, and on land preparing myself, my students, and my loved ones for the TIME that Big Wave hits!
