Twitter, Technology, and Trouble....

This week's blog post is about Twitter, Technology and Trouble because of the experiences I had and the trouble I see in the future.  I'm probably going to add a couple more T's like Time and Today!

Today, I did something I promised myself I'd never do.  I joined Twitter. Thats all I need in my life is another place to spend time and receive MORE information. We are absolutely bombarded by technology and information.... and frankly, I don't have time in my life or space in my brain for any more information. Another reason I am not thrilled to be part of the social network scene is because of AI and the dada collection that is taking place.  Twitter, like Facebook (and many other platforms), will not allow an individual to create an account unless they have a photo of themself.  They say it's because of security, but it's really another piece of data used to categorize the individual, individualize their experience, and place them on the "Grand Family Tree" on the Cloud.  Well, maybe not lol, but I did have a couple interesting thoughts today.

First, one of the many things that makes America great is our individual ability to be innovative. The innovation that happens in America is a result of millions of Americans, having a million ideas, and a million people experimenting on a million different things.  Obviously, many fail, but also many succeed.  The ones who succeed could be curing cancer or inventing a flying car.  In the past, nowhere on earth has the resources, freedom, and drive that America has to "take it to the next level."  The future looks troublesome if you view today's society with my lenses.

Unfortunately, we have become obsessed with our devices.  We spend countless hours staring at our individual handheld devices.  Americans spend hours mesmerized; looking at videos, playing games, texting, reading, searching, scrolling and many other things that are preventing us from being innovative.  I've been surveying my students and individuals I meet for over a year. I ask them how much time they spend looking at devices.  Some have no trouble saying 12-15 hours... and some people answer, "only about 6 hours a day!"

How much time do you spend on your devices or your screens?

How much time do you spend face-to-face with individuals? 1-on-1, or in Groups?

I will try to answer those questions for myself either later or in my week 13 post!

Have a nice day! Enjoy the weather this weekend!
